3D Printer
The Faculty of Architecture has four 3D printers. All of them use the fused deposition modelling (FDM) process to print plastics, primarily polylactides (polylactic acids) as filaments "from the roll".
The BigRep V 3.0 with an installation space of 1 x 1 x 1 m can print large architectural models, prototypes and components in layer thicknesses of 0.4 - 0.8 mm from plastic.
The three Zortrax M300s with an installation space of 300 x 300 x 300 mm can print architectural models in very fine layer thicknesses of 0.14 - 0.3 mm from plastic.
Utilisation
In general, all students of the faculties can create 3D prints on the 3D printers.
As there are a few important things to bear in mind, an introductory course must be attended beforehand.
This takes place every semester:
- as a one-day course for Bachelor's students from the 4th semester during the semester
- as a one-day course for Master's students during the semester
- as part of the Bachelor's elective subject System Construction
- as part of the Bachelor's General Competences subject Rhino/3D printing at the end of the lecture period
Please note the notices / information!
The general procedure for 3D printing is:
1. email the .stl. file to the 3D printing team at 3d-druck_fb1fh-aachen.de
2. the team will check the printability and let you know.
3. if the file is printable, the file is converted into a 3D print file.
4. team informs how much filament is needed.
5. after payment of the filament at the LMR, printing is started.
