Physical Chemistry

The courses on physical chemistry teach the basics of thermodynamics and its applications: main theorems of thermodynamics, calculation of physical changes of state, thermochemical calculations, properties of solutions.
The students learn to interpret phase diagrams of pure substances and of mixtures and to calculate the course of phase boundary lines. They learn how galvanic cells work and how to calculate cell potentials. Furthermore, the basics for describing the speed of physical transport processes and chemical reactions are covered. The students learn to recognise reaction orders, to determine rate constants from experimental data and to describe their temperature dependence.
