FAQ Registration for compulsory internships

FAQ: Registration for practical trainings

Any questions regarding the central registration for practical trainings will be answered here. There is also a short guide on how to use CampusOffice.

Have you read the FAQ in full and still have a question? (Write an email to Mr Hess for Computer Science, Business Informatics, Media and Communications for Digital Business and Digital Innovation and Business or to Mr Goedderz for Electrical Engineering).

01: How do I find the registration procedure?

Go to any course in the coming semester and select: "You can register here". In the next screen you will then find an overview of all compulsory internships that belong to this semester.

You will only see the final internship groups during the enrolment period (see FAQ #5).

02: What happens to registrations on the waiting list?

If you end up on the waiting list, you have two options

  1. You will be offered a place in the internship group for which you have registered on the waiting list. This happens if a previously registered student withdraws from the internship group.

  2. You will be allocated a place in another internship group in the random allocation procedure. This date will not overlap with other selected practical trainings from the registration procedure, but you will have no further influence on the final date!

Move-up procedures or random allocation may only be carried out once the application deadline has passed. At this point, you no longer have the opportunity to influence the result by changing your application.

In your own interest, you should therefore avoid the waiting lists if possible and instead look for a free group and change your enrolment accordingly. It is possible to change your registration by cancelling your place on the waiting list and re-registering in another group, see FAQ question 3.

03: Can I change my registration?

Yes, as long as the process is still running, you can go back to the registration page and change your details.

If you change to a group that is already full, you will be placed on the waiting list. You may lose your place in the group you leave.

04: Do I have to register for all practical trainings?

It is up to you which compulsory internships you register for. For example, if you only want to register for two practical trainings out of a total of four offered in the semester, simply select "no course in this group" for the others.

This centralised procedure is the only way to register for these practical trainings - and is therefore mandatory for all participants.

05: When does the application process start? When will I be allocated?

Enrolment

1st semester

  • Registration begins during the first week of the semester following one of your first compulsory courses
  • You will find detailed information in CampusOffice in good time
  • Deadline on Wednesday of the first week of classes at 11:59 pm
  • Final allocation during the Thursday of the first week of classes

Practical trainings 2nd and 3rd semester

  • In each case 2 weeks before the start of the course on Mondays at 12 noon
  • Deadline on Wednesday of the first week at 11:59 pm
  • Final allocation during the Thursday of the first week of the course

Final allocation

Students with places on the waiting list will be allocated on the Thursday of the first week of lectures. All students will then receive information about the final allocation for the respective internship groups.

06: Can I register without the 29 ECTS credits?

The practical trainings in the 3rd semesters (Computer Science / Business Informatics / Electrical Engineering) have an admission restriction. The registration procedure starts 2 weeks before the start of lectures and it is possible that you do not yet have the required 29 ECTS points.

You can still register then, but you should be sure that you will achieve the missing points in the written examinations in September, otherwise you will lose your right to your internship once the examination results are known.

07: What happens if I have missed the registration procedure?

The registration procedure takes place during a period when you are a fully registered student in the semester study programme, so you do not need to worry that you will not be able to take part in the practical training registrations due to absence during the lecture and examination-free period. You register online (from any location).

Internship registrations are on a first-come-first-served basis and if you are unable to register, you will no longer be able to choose the internship dates yourself after the end of the registration period.

In the worst-case scenario, all internship groups will be full (see FAQ #2 and FAQ #11), so in your own interest, make sure you take part in the enrolment process.

In short: you will be penalised if you "miss out". If you can prove that you have been ill (for the entire registration period), please send an email to Mr Hess for Computer Science, Business Informatics, Media and Communications for Digital Business and Digital Innovation and Business or to Mr Goedderz for Electrical Engineering.

08: Can I register for practical trainings in the first semester as well as in the third semester?

Yes, you can. Just select the desired subjects in the respective enrolment procedure. Please note: In this case, CampusOffice will not carry out a collision check. You must check your own dates between semesters.

Please also note when it is possible to register for practical trainings in the respective semester.(FAQ, question #5)

09: How does this affect degree programme and transfer students?

If you are a degree programme or transfer student and can take advantage of the registration period, please use the procedure as described.

If you can prove that you will only be able to register for practical trainings after the final allocation date, please send an email to Mr Hess for Computer Science, Business Informatics, Media and Communications for Digital Business or to Mr Goedderz for Electrical Engineering.

10: Can I still change groups after allocation?

Once you have been assigned, you can normally only change group(s) if you organise a swap partner yourself. In this case, please contact the relevant subject lecturer and/or work placement supervisor.

11: What if all internship places in a course are taken? (there are only waiting list places left)

For all compulsory courses, it is ultimately ensured that sufficient internship places are also available for all students on the waiting lists. For organisational reasons, however, not all places can be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have a place on the waiting list, you will be allocated a place after the deadline. However, you have no influence on the final date of the internship groups to which you are then allocated.

12: When I try to register for the practical trainings, I receive the following error message: "No valid data has been stored in Campus for your access yet. Registration is therefore not possible."

This error message usually occurs if you have not yet been re-registered for the coming semester (in which the registration procedure takes place). Your account will be activated for the new semester in CampusOffice (centrally and automatically) once your semester fee has been received. The actual transfer of your new status to CampusOffice may take an extra day. You can then register for the practical trainings.
