Registration for elective modules & interdisciplinary projects

Introduction

The registration procedure for elective modules and interdisciplinary projects is described on this page and is mandatory for all participants of elective modules in the 4th to 5th semester for the following degree programmes:

  • Computer Science
  • Business Informatics
  • Media and Communications for Digital Business
  • Electrical Engineering

Students on other degree programmes are not affected: The elective procedure is regulated in the attachment to the Examination Regulations (see notice at the Examination Office) and will be explained in more detail during the module presentation.

What you need to do

The selection procedure for elective modules and the Interdisciplinary Project can be divided into the following (sub-)steps:

Step 1 Registration in Campus Office

A course is created in Campus Office for each degree programme and for each elective phase in the semester in which the elective phase takes place. All further information on dates, deadlines and content of the elective modules and interdisciplinary projects is also stored there.

First, you must register in the Campus Office by the deadline (registration is required; transferring it to your campus calendar is not sufficient).

Please note that you may only register if you already fulfil the admission requirements of your Examination Regulations.

Step 2 Prioritisation/selection in the elective module system

In the next step, you must make your choice or prioritise your desired elective modules within a specified period of time (see above).

A special system is used to prioritise your choices as fairly as possible.

Click here for the elective distribution system

Please note that registration is only possible from the FH network (you can also use the FH Aachen VPN for this)

Please use your FH abbreviation as login data, which you can also use to log in to other systems such as Ilias.

After successfully logging in, you must specify how many elective modules you would like to take this semester. You will also be told how many you must prioritise as a minimum.

You prioritise by the number of "asterisks" you click on. The more "asterisks" you select, the higher the priority. You can prioritise modules taking place at the same time. However, no more than one of them will be prioritised during distribution.

Pressing the "x" excludes the module completely. Modules that have already been excluded can be found in the list below and can be added and prioritised again.

It is also possible to pre-register for participation in an "Interdisciplinary Project" (IP). To do this, click on the "Project required" checkbox during the elective module selection phase.

The selection of IPs takes place after the selection phases of the elective modules (as a separate ballot via the same system). Otherwise, the use/procedure is analogue.

Notes:

  • You can always change your choice or prioritisation *within* an election phase by logging in again and making changes (+ saving).
  • The maximum number of elective modules that you can be assigned via the system depends on your degree programme. This cannot be exceeded. Examples as of 2019: Computer Science 9; MCD 9; Business Informatics 2.
  • The maximum number of interdisciplinary projects that you can be assigned via the system depends on your degree programme. This cannot be exceeded. Examples as of 2019: Computer Science 1; MCD 1; Information Systems 1.
  • After the elective phases of the elective modules, the remaining places will be filled via enquiry with the module/IP managers. There will be no remaining places on campus.

Step 3 Allocation of results

As a rule, the results are finalised and stored in the system no later than 1 week after the election phase has been completed. You can see the results of your allocations after you have successfully logged into the system again (see step 2).

Authorisation & examination

Prerequisites for the elective modules

In order to participate in elective modules and interdisciplinary projects in the 4th and 5th semesters, at least 50 credits (ECTS) must have been achieved from the first two semesters for the degree programmes Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Business Informatics (note: a corresponding review will take place).

There are no mandatory admission requirements for MCD. However, in their own interest, students are recommended to only register for the compulsory elective practical trainings of the 3rd semester if they have at least 50 ECTS in the basic subjects or if they are sure that they will achieve them in the current examination cycle.

Registration for the Interdisciplinary Project examination

1. registration in Campus. Use/procedure analogous to elective modules (later date).

2. additional registration for the examination via QIS is required . (3rd week of lectures)

3. if all group members declare that each member has contributed equally to the final result in terms of quality and quantity, they all receive the same final grade for the project. otherwise, the individual contributions are taken into account and the individual grades are adjusted so that the average of the individual grades corresponds to the final grade for the project.

4. after the IP has been completed and graded, the lecturer informs the Examination Office of the project participants' grades and enters them in the QIS system.
