How do I know which degree programme is right for me?
If you are not yet sure which degree programme is right for you, you are welcome to contact the General Academic Counselling Service. They will help you choose a suitable degree programme.
You can also take orientation tests, for example at hochschulkompass.de/studium or was-studiere-ich.de.
I do not have a university entrance qualification. Can I still study?
It is possible to start a degree programme at FH Aachen as a professionally qualified applicant. Find out more.
Is there an NC?
Bachelor's degree programmes without admission restrictions (degree programmes without NC) are Electrical Engineering, ETOS and Computer Science. The degree programmes Business Informatics and MCD are admission-restricted degree programmes (numerus clausus = limited number of places at university). Grades play a role in the allocation of places, but not exclusively. You should therefore not make your application dependent on your grades, but rather consider whether you meet the requirements of the degree programme (basic mathematical and technical understanding). I have a foreign school-leaving qualification. Do I need to be able to demonstrate German language skills?
Yes, foreign students must have passed the DSH-2 or TestDaF (4x4) language test or other equivalent certificates. There are special regulations for applicants with certificates from the German-speaking Community of Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and some others. I come from the DG Belgium.
A certificate from the upper secondary school of the DG Belgium must first be converted by the Registrar's Office of FH Aachen. For this purpose, it must be sent to the Registrar's Office by email with scanned copies before the online application with the individual grades shown.
Where do I apply?
For Business Informatics and MCD, you first register at hochschulstart.de. There you will receive an applicant ID & BAN. You use this to submit your application via the FH Aachen portal. For Electrical Engineering, ETOS and Computer Science, you apply directly via the FH Aachen portal.
When do I apply?
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: from the beginning of June to 31 August. Bachelor Media and Communications for Digital Business (MCD) and Business Informatics: from the beginning of June to 31 July. Electrical Engineering with orientation semester: from the beginning of December to 28 February. Master's degree programmes: until the last day of the current semester. The Registrar's Office will be happy to help with any questions about the application.
When and how do I find out if I am authorised?
For admission-restricted degree programmes, re-registration takes place from the end of July to the end of August at the latest. Admission can be called up via hochschulstart.de.
For degree programmes without admission restrictions, you can print out a letter of admission at the end of the application process on the FH Aachen portal. You can use this to register directly.
Do I have to show proof of practical training?
No. The only exception is the Bachelor Smart Building Engineering (proof of full-time practical experience of 8 weeks prior to enrolment).
Can I have academic achievements recognised?
The Registrar's Office will be happy to help with general questions on this topic. If you have questions about specific academic achievements, you should contact the module coordinator of the module that you would like to replace with work you have already completed. Can I do a dual study programme?
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology does not offer any dual study programmes. More information and an overview of the dual study programmes at FH Aachen
