Laboratory for Laser Applications and New Materials

FH Aachen offers laser technology in the Physics Engineering degree programme at the Jülich campus. This is the only degree programme in the Aachen - Jülich - Düren region that focuses on laser technology and laser applications. The degree programme includes the necessary fundamentals such as technical optics, wave theory, quantum mechanics, solid state physics as well as a strong focus on mathematics.

Laser Laboratory

In the "Laboratory for Laser Applications and New Materials", students can develop their own laser applications and directly apply the theory they have learnt in lectures and exercises.

Research projects are carried out in parallel in this laboratory. This gives students the opportunity to carry out sub-projects in real research projects on equipment that is also used in research and industry. In this way, students learn to discuss with people from research and industry on an equal footing and experience how their own work results contribute to research and fit into larger projects.

Degree Programmes

The Physics Engineering degree programme teaches in particular the skills required to develop completely new laser applications.

In the Master's degree programme in Energy Systems , laser applications in photovoltaics, battery technology, fuel cells and hydrogen reformers are examined and applied in more detail.
