How our faculty is organized
Deanery
The tasks of the Dean's Office include the representation of the faculty within the university, the responsibility for the teaching program, the organization of examinations, as well as the allocation of positions and resources in the faculty.
The Dean's Office is composed of a Dean and four Vice Deans, consisting of two professors, one staff member and one student. It is elected every four years by the faculty council.

Vice Dean for Finance
The Vice Dean for Finance (also called Dean of Finance) is the central contact person for all matters concerning the distribution of the faculty's financial and human resources.
Concrete examples of activities are the administration of state and third-party funds, budget planning, and the development of medium- and long-term financing concepts.
Vice Dean for Teaching
The Vice Dean for Teaching (also called Dean of Studies) is the representative for academic teaching. He/she is responsible for teaching and study matters. The task of the Dean of Studies is to maintain and improve the quality of teaching and is thus the central contact person for students in general questions of study and teaching.
Concrete examples of the activities of the Dean of Studies are: Chairing the faculty's student advisory committee, advising on the development of new degree programs, monitoring the feasibility of courses, serving on the evaluation committee (with student participation).
Vice Dean of Employees
The Vice Dean of Employees represents the interests of the employees in the faculty. This includes regular participation in the dean's office meetings and other discussions / committee meetings with members of the faculty. Furthermore, he/she is the contact person for the scientific and non-scientific employees at the faculty.
Student Vice Dean
The Student Vice Dean represents the interests of the students. This includes regular participation in the dean's office meetings and other discussion rounds / committee meetings with members of the faculty. Furthermore, he/she is the contact person for the students and the student members of the student council.

Faculty Office
The Faculty Office supports the Deanery as well as employees of the faculty in organizational, administrative and secretarial tasks. It provides information on general questions, forwards inquiries to the appropriate contact persons and is the first point of contact for visitors to the faculty.

Faculty Council
The academic and administrative matters of the faculty are decided in the faculty council: All examination regulations of the faculty pass through this body, as do new appointments, plans for the advancement of women and evaluation results of teaching. The council consists of seven professors, three staff members and three students.
Non-voting members of the faculty council are the members of the dean's office. They have the right to propose motions and to speak.

Our "Fachschaftsrat" (for short, in German: FSR) is part of the student self-administration and represents the interests of all students enrolled in the faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics (Faculty 8). The office of the FSR is a point of contact where the selected student representatives try to settle all kind of student problems, provide assistance with setting up a lecture timetable and answer questions relating to study programs.
The student representatives organize different student events, such as the introductory week for first semesters.

Equal Opportunities Officers
The decentralised Equal Opportunity Officers in the faculties of the FH Aachen make an important contribution to the university's equal opportunities work and support the FH Aachen at the faculty level in achieving its strategic goals in equal opportunities.
Their tasks are in particular:

Examination Board
The Examination Board of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics ensures the observance of the general examination regulations as well as the observance of the examination regulations for the following degree programs:

Examinations Office
The Examinations Office manages examination registrations and deregistrations, issues certificates or transcripts, and reviews admissions or non-admissions to examinations or theses. Further information can be found on the page of the Examinations Office.
Quality Improvement Commission (QV Commission)
The Quality Improvement Commission (QA Commission) consists of the following members:
- 3 students
- 1 professor
- 1 academic staff member
- 1 member from the Dean's Office (advisory function)
In order to continuously improve the quality of the study conditions, all members and students of the faculty can submit suggestions to the QV Commission (qv-kommission-fb8fh-aachen.de), e.g. for the improvement of internal procedures and processes, for the appropriate use of financial resources, etc.
These suggestions are then examined and forwarded to the appropriate bodies in a targeted manner.
Guidance Counsellor
The Guidance Counsellor is nominated by the students and is the first point of contact in the event of deficiencies and problems in the area of teaching and study organization which the students are unable to resolve satisfactorily with their lecturers and examiners. The task of the Guidance Counsellor is to mediate between the parties concerned in such situations and, if necessary, to bring about a solution to the problem via the dean of the department.
