Training orientation semester

In the Electrical Engineering with Training Orientation (ETAUS) degree programme, both study and training units are integrated in the first semester so that students can experience both educational paths intensively. To this end, students conclude a part-time training contract with a cooperating company parallel to their application for a place at university at FH Aachen. In the first semester, students then spend four days a week at the FH and one day a week at the company during the lecture period from October to January. Outside of lecture periods, students spend the whole week at the company. The first semester is accompanied by joint mentoring by the part-time training company and FH Aachen. At the end of the first semester, a final mentoring discussion takes place so that the students can make an informed decision about their future educational path. They can either continue their studies at FH Aachen or continue their training full-time.

In the fifth and sixth semesters, the study schedule provides for a total of 7 elective modules, a soft skills module and an interdisciplinary project. The elective modules can be selected from the elective catalogue. In addition, up to three modules can be selected from the compulsory elective catalogue of the Bachelor's degree programmes "Computer Science" or "Digital Innovation and Business"

By the end of the 5th semester at the latest, students decide whether they want to switch to the degree programme variant with a practical placement or semester abroad. The change is made at the Examination Office. Due to the additional semester, the practical project, Bachelor's thesis and colloquium are postponed to the 7th semester. Students gain additional ECTS during the practical semester or semester abroad and complete their Bachelor's degree with 210 ECTS, which qualifies them for admission to a Master's degree programme.
The practical semester can optionally take place in the original training company if the criteria specified in the Examination Regulations are met.

Focal points
The individual elective modules can be assigned to specialisations if desired. If the student has completed at least four elective modules from a specialisation, the successful completion of this specialisation can be noted on the degree certificate with a corresponding addition upon request. The choice of specialisation is optional.
