GATE Training Course 2016

GATE Summer school 2016

19th - 22nd Sept. 2016

Monte Carlo (MC) simulation is widely recognized as an essential method to study the physics of nuclear medicine, radiology, and radiation therapy. GATE, the Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission, combines the advantages of the general-purpose Geant4 simulation code and of specific software tool implementations dedicated to emission
tomography, radiation therapy and dosimetry applications.

Built on top of the Geant4 simulation toolkit, GATE provides multiple new features with the objective to ease the use of Geant4 in the field of nuclear medicine. The handling of time, with the description of time-dependent phenomena such as movement of geometry
elements or source decay kinetics, is a key and original feature of the platform. Scripting via a command language substitutes to C++ coding. This allows to set up simulations, from the description of the geometry to the modelling of the electronics. The high modula- rity of the design of GATE has allowed a fast and efficient development of its various
components.

Our summer school provides the understanding and handling of the GATE simulation toolkit combined with practical exercises. After one week of intensive operation, you will be able to

  •  installing GATE, and the educational GATE platform (EduGATE),

  •  design and set up your own simulation task,

  •  know how to handle each part of the toolkit,

  •  understand the special structure and nomenclature,

  •  obtain raw data of imaging systems: specially for CT and (S)PET.

The students are welcome to bring along a project of their own to be solved during the Summer school.

After having completed your GATE Summer school, you will receive a FH Aachen Certificate in “GATE Training Course”.
