Apprenticeship Day 2018
3rd Teaching Day at FH Aachen | Teaching Impulses
"Study Success and Study Motivation"| 08.11.2018
Arousing curiosity, promoting motivation and creating enthusiasm: These were the goals conveyed at the third Teaching Day at FH Aachen. A total of 180 professors, staff and students of the FH came to receive more teaching tips and share their experiences with each other across disciplines under the motto "Study Success and Study Motivation".
The aim of the day was to work out how to promote student motivation. The main focus was on maintaining the intrinsic motivation of the students. Only in this way can the acquisition of competencies succeed. This was explained by Prof. Dr. Josef Rosenkranz, Prorector for Studies and Teaching, and Prof. Dr. Miriam Barnat, Executive Director of the Centre for University Didactics and Quality Development. In their lecture, they summarised the numerous well-founded research approaches on the topic of motivation to study.
In five different workshops, numerous tips were given and value was placed on an exchange between teachers and students. Among others, Prof. Dr. Heinrich Hemme, last year's teaching award winner, spoke and shared his ideas of study motivation with his colleagues.
At the degree, the groups came together again to discuss the results under the moderation of FH Press Officer Dr. Roger Uhle. These were visually recorded in parallel by Henk Wijnands using graphic recording:
The workshop leaders Prof. Dr. Stefan Vörtler, Prof. Dr. Harald Rau, Prof. Silke Bock, Dipl.-Päd. Desiree Krüger and Kirsten Petersen summarised their most important suggestions: Simplicity, practical orientation, movement, breaks and paying attention to self-perception and the perception of others are just a few examples.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the 2018 teaching award winners. Prof. Dr. Christoph Hebel was awarded for outstanding teaching and the "pro8" project of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics for team teaching. The project is headed by Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Martina Klocke.
