Training as a specialist in media and information services, subject area Library
Specialists in media and information services (FaMI) are responsible for procuring, preparing and securing specialist information and specific data. This profession is trained in five subject areas, whereby the trainee acquires basic knowledge in all subject areas.
The subject areas are:
- Archive
- Library
- Information and documentation
- Picture agency
- Medical documentation
The FaMI's tasks are largely carried out with the help of data processing. Researching databases and communicating information to customers also play a major role in everyday work.
Content of the training
In-company training takes place in the Library Administration and in all four branch libraries. Practical trainings in two of the other subject areas are completed as part of the training in order to deepen the theory from the lessons at the vocational school. An internship abroad is also possible.
The trainees learn how to acquire printed and electronic books, magazines and many other media. These media are recorded on the computer and given media numbers. Printed material is affixed with signature labels and security labels.
Shelving and maintaining the library stocks are part of the trainees' range of tasks.
Under the guidance of the trainers, they take on work in the area of lending and simple user counselling. Catalogues and databases are used for research. You will also be shown how to look after technical equipment such as copiers, printers and scanners.
Among other things, you will process reminders, check invoices and participate in the preparation and implementation of events.
