"Heart of the Steppes" - Exhibition Invites You to Travel to Kazakhstan

17-year-old graphic artist Tumar Galymzhankyzy has a personal connection to the Faculty of Design at FH Aachen

Art is a window to the world, it opens up new insights and perspectives. "Heart of the Steppes" is the title of an exhibition that can be seen at the Salto Art Gallery in Aachen until 16 September. Works by 17-year-old graphic artist Tumar Galymzhankyzy are on display; she comes from Kazakhstan, but also has a personal connection to the Faculty of Design at FH Aachen.

First Visit in 2007

The collaboration between FH Aachen and the Kazakh National Academy of Arts Temirbek Zhurgenov, based in Almaty, dates back to 2007. At that time, a cooperation agreement was reached and, as part of this programme, numerous students and teachers from Kazakhstan came to FH Aachen. During the first visit in 2007, Tumar Galymzhankyzy's mother Ainash was already in Aachen, and she is now accompanying her daughter to set up and open the exhibition. Prof Helmut Jakobs, Dean of the Faculty for many years , was also present. He was a driving force behind the cooperation and helped to organise the current exhibition.

Honoured at International Competitions

Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world, and is characterised by vast plains and steppes. Tumar Galymzhankyzy's work reflects the rich cultural heritage of her homeland, between Europe and Asia, emotionally and spiritually. The young graphic artist is currently registered as a first-year student at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts, but has already won prizes in national and international competitions.

On Display until 16 September

The exhibition "Heart of the Steppes" (Herz der Steppen) can be visited until 16 September at the Salto Art Galerie, Am Lavenstein 4, 52064 Aachen. The gallery is open Tuesdays to Fridays from 11 am to 6 pm.
