Advantages of the orientation semester
Easier transition
Prospective students who are still hesitating because they fear that their school maths and physics basics are not sufficient for a degree in electrical engineering have the opportunity to take an extra semester to consolidate their basics during the orientation semester. With a solid foundation of basic courses, the rest of the degree programme can then often be completed more quickly. The extra semester pays off in retrospect.
Prospective students with professional experience
For those with professional experience who have initially completed an apprenticeship and worked after leaving school, returning to learning can be difficult. The orientation semester includes many orientation and introductory courses that make it easier to (re)start learning.
Start away from the crowds
Prospective students who find the hustle and bustle of the start of studies in the winter semester too much often find it easier to start in the summer semester, as experience has shown that the groups are smaller and contacts are made more quickly. The situation on the housing market is also often more relaxed in the summer semester.
Teaching degree with specialised baccalaureate
Technical high school graduates who are interested in technology and would like to enter the teaching profession can study electrical engineering at FH Aachen. During their Bachelor's degree, they can already take their first didactics courses before switching to the Master's degree programme in Teaching at Vocational Colleges at RWTH Aachen University.
Procedure:
- Joint orientation semester at FH Aachen and RWTH Aachen University
- In the 2nd semester, continuation of studies at one of the two universities: "Electrical Engineering" at Faculty 5 of FH Aachen (B. Eng) or "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" at Faculty 6 of RWTH Aachen University (B. Sc.)*.
- Computer Science" at Faculty 6 of RWTH Aachen University (B. Sc.)*.
*Continuation of the degree programme at RWTH is only possible with a general university entrance qualification
. The joint orientation semester can be attended with an entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences or a general university entrance qualification
