What happens after studying electrical engineering or completing an apprenticeship?
Career opportunities & fields of activity
Due to the great shortage of skilled workers, many career paths are open to both trained electronics technicians and graduates of the electrical engineering degree programme. They are particularly in demand in the following areas:
- Electronics and hardware companies
- Mechanical and plant engineering
- Chemical and pharmaceutical industry
- medical technology
- logistics sector
- Automotive and vehicle construction
For trained electronics technicians, there is also a lot going on in the following areas
- Energy and building technology
- Solar and wind energy sector
- Metal and electrical industry
- Production and manufacturing
Further options after graduation
The Bachelor of Engineering programme enables our students to complete a professional, fast-track degree course that enables them to work successfully and effectively in industry.
The degree programme is offered as a six-semester Bachelor's degree programme or as a seven-semester Bachelor's degree programme with an integrated internship or semester abroad. The second option offers a further practice-oriented specialisation and the subsequent opportunity to switch to the Electrical Engineering Master's degree programme. Master's graduates can pursue a career in science and research as well as leading positions in companies. In individual cases, there is the possibility of a doctorate via the NRW doctoral programme.
Prospective engineers as well as experienced professionals have the opportunity to become teachers at a vocational college . The Master of Education (M. Ed.) is usually required as a degree for a professional career in teaching at vocational colleges. Teacher training programmes are currently only offered at universities in Germany. In cooperation, FH Aachen and RWTH Aachen University offer the programme "Lehramt BK - Ingenieur:in sein, Lehrer:in werden".
Further options after training
After successfully completing training as an electronics technician, promising career prospects open up. Through targeted further training and master craftsman courses, skilled workers can deepen their qualifications and advance to managerial positions. For example, it is possible to become an industrial foreman or a technical business administrator. The training of trainers (AdA) qualifies you to prepare trainees for the examination yourself. Access to state-certified technician programmes enables comprehensive professional development and opens up further professional horizons in the field of electrical engineering.
Of course, with a (technical) Abitur (university entrance qualification) or several years of professional experience, it is always possible to take up a degree programme in electrical engineering after completing your training.
