First Courses and Events at the Faculty
Depending on the degree programme, the start of studies varies. For some degree programmes, there are introductory events, bridging courses or preliminary courses even before the official start of the lecture period.
You can find all the preliminary courses offered in this overview.
The best thing to do is to find out from your faculty which offers are available to you at the start of your studies. You will find an overview and a link to the relevant faculty pages further down on this page.
Faculty Student Councils and Freshers' Week
The faculty student councils (Fachschaftsräte) are usually in charge of supporting first-semester students. There is a student council for each faculty, which consists of a group of students from the respective faculty.
The student councils represent the interests of the students and help with all questions regarding the start of studies as well as problems that arise during the course of studies.
The faculty student councils additionally organise the "Ersti-Woche" (Freshers' Week) , where you can get to know your future fellow students and receive information on creating timetables, attending courses etc.
You can find the contact details of your student council at your faculty.
