Deepak Rao, Master Mechatronics
After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I was eagerly looking for a course to dig deeper in the field of robotics. The Master of Science in Mechatronics course gave me the opportunity to explore this in depth and truly allowed me to understand the intricacies of building autonomous robotic systems. The course has a perfect mix of knowledge from the Mechanical, Electronics as well as Computer science disciplines. Being a university of applied sciences, I felt that the course content really lends itself to gain relevant practical/industrial knowledge. The lectures and laboratory sessions are a part of almost every subject and helps to understand the fundamentals in a thorough manner.
There is also the chance to participate and learn in the summer schools organized by various Professors. The summer school for “Robot Operating System” by Prof. Kallweit as well as the “Industry 4.0” by Prof. Wollert provides a basis for taking up additional courses based on one’s interests and a nice chance to learn and/or tutor the students of the summer school. Apart from the academics, a lot of fun events such as the winter party or the summer party makes the university life quite lively apart from the usual hustle bustle of student life.
After the coursework of 3 semesters and having an aligned interest in the field of autonomous driving by building up on the relevant courses in this field, I completed my internship and master thesis at Visteon Electronics Germany GmbH in the field of validation of autonomous driving functions. Throughout the phase of the internship and thesis, the knowledge from my coursework helped me in executing my tasks and understand the real-life application in a concrete manner.
After graduating and continuing to work in the same company, I feel proud to have decided to study at the FH Aachen. I enjoyed my time at the university and would recommend anyone who wishes to pursue studying Mechatronics and wishing you good luck.
