University Council
The University Council is a body provided for at higher education institutions by the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia. One of its most important tasks is to advise the Rectorate and supervise its management. At least half of the members of the university council should be external. These are personalities who have rendered outstanding services to society, science, culture or business.
At FH Aachen, six of the eight members are external. The members are appointed by the Ministry for a term of five years.
The University Council meets at least four times a year. According to the law, the meetings are not public.
However, the University Council at FH Aachen does not see itself merely as a supervisory body. Rather, the members strive to enter into dialogue with representatives from the faculties, the staff and the students of the university. The agenda of every meeting therefore always includes the item "Talks", in which individual areas of the FH present themselves.
Tasks of the University Council
- Participation by its members in the university electoral assembly for the election and deselection of the members of the Rectorate
- approval of the draft university development plan and the university contract
- approval of the economic plan
- Supervision of the economic management of the Rectorate
- Recommendations and statements on the Rectorate's annual report
- Recommendations and opinions in the areas of research, art, teaching and studies
- Approval of the annual accounts and discharge of the Rectorate
- etc.
