Addiction and prevention
In recent years, the FH Aachen has introduced a comprehensive occupational health management (OHM) system. The tasks of the health management also include education, sensitisation and support in the area of addiction and prevention. We understand this to mean the uncontrollable consumption of alcohol, nicotine, intoxicants and digital media, among other things.
In the future, we will offer our staff comprehensive information material, training and counselling. Whether you just want to inform yourself or you observe that you yourself or another person need help.
For your own assessment, you can already carry out a first alcohol self-test.

Behavioural roadmap in the event of addiction
Behaviour as a leader
Often, affected persons experience changes in their behaviour. Talk openly to the person concerned about these changes (e.g. difficulty concentrating, fatigue, absenteeism, etc.).
Currently, a service agreement on the topic of "addiction at the workplace" is being developed by various stakeholders of the BGM steering committee and the FH's interest groups. Until this service agreement has been adopted and the corresponding training has been carried out, we recommend that you contact the relevant contact persons in your area of responsibility if you notice any problems. They will provide you with further information, advice and support.
Behaviour as a team member
As a team member, you should first consider your relationship to the person concerned and whether you feel confident to talk openly. If necessary, contact your superior.
Thefollowing applies in general:
Ignoring or concealing changes in behaviour often leads to a consolidation of the addictive behaviour. Addressing it means that you take your team member seriously and value them.
Detailed information on the topics of addiction & prevention can be obtained, for example, from the Deutsche Hauptstelle für Suchtfragen e.V. (DHS) or the Blue Cross:
