Name Change and Change of Gender Entry for Transgender Persons at the University
The dgti supplementary identity card is a standardised identity card that documents all self-selected personal data such as first name, pronoun and gender and shows a current passport photo. It is issued by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Transidentität und Intersexualität e.V. (German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality) and serves to prevent discrimination from official channels. It supports the right to be addressed in one's conscious and declared gender as well as self-selected first names in communication with state authorities, which is valid according to a ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court 2 BvR 1833/95.
Since October 2022, it has been valid at FH Aachen that the presentation of the dgti supplementary identity card is sufficient for all identity-related procedures at the university - from application to registration to examinations. For inter*, trans* and non-binary persons, the official identity documents do not match their own gender location prior to the official change of name and/or civil status. Until now, students and applicants had to wait for a court order in such cases; in future, it will be sufficient to show the supplementary ID. If you have any questions, please contact the Registrar's Office.
Further information and recommendations can be found at the Federal Conference of Women's and Equal Opportunity Officers at Universities and at the Working Group for Transemancipatory Higher Education Policy.
Wissenschaftliche Studie zum Thema „Lebenslagen on LSBTIQ* in Nordrhein-Westfalen"
