Applied Chemistry B.Sc. with semester abroad

The Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Chemistry is offered with and without a practical semester abroad. This results in a programme duration of six or seven semesters. A practical semester is a whole semester that you usually spend outside our university, in industry or at a research institute, working on a project. On the one hand, this semester serves as preparation for your Bachelor's thesis and on the other hand, you will receive 30 additional credit points (LP) for the practical semester and thus a total of 210 LP for your degree programme. The number of credit points is relevant if you wish to continue your studies. Many Master's degree programmes require a minimum number of credit points as a prerequisite. For example, if you choose our Master's degree programme inNuclear Applications or Applied Polymer Science and only have 180 CP from a six-semester Bachelor's degree programme, you will continue with a four-semester Master's degree programme. If you already have 210 credit points from a Bachelor's degree programme, choose the three-semester Master's degree programme. However, this option is not necessarily available for all Master's degree programmes at other universities.
If you choose a semester abroad instead of the practical semester, the situation is similar, except that you spend the semester abroad, which can also be at a foreign university. Both the practical semester and the semester abroad can help you to gain a deeper insight into a possible future field of work, for the optimal choice of your topic for your Bachelor's thesis and for your later professional life.

You can also change your degree programme during your studies, i.e. decide later whether you want to do the practical semester abroad or not.
