Applied Chemistry B.Sc.
Innovative Chemistry for a Sustainable Future!
Welcome to the future of chemistry! At FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, we offer a Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Chemistry which, in addition to the traditional fundamentals such as organic, inorganic or physical chemistry, also places a strong focus on the future of chemistry: sustainability and innovation.
The social and economic relevance of chemistry is enormous: chemical products can be found throughout our everyday lives - from paints and lacquers to building materials, adhesives and medications, to name just a few examples. Chemistry is also indispensable for key technologies for a sustainable future. Lightweight plastic materials reduce energy consumption in mobility, and materials for renewable energies are also products of chemical development and industry - here you will learn how chemistry can change the world without polluting it. Accordingly, the chemical industry is very diverse and offers good career prospects.
In our practice-oriented degree programme at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biotechnology, current research and industry topics are covered and taught in an application-oriented way. After the fundamentals, various specialisations are dealt with later on in the course of the degree programme:
- Polymer chemistry and plastics technology - here you will learn the most important fundamentals for the production, processing and application of polymer materials; topics such as bio-based plastics, biodegradability or recycling are also of great importance; you can expand on this in our Master's degree programme "Applied Polymer Science".
- Sustainable chemistry - alternative raw materials from renewable resources or waste streams, catalytic processes for improved energy efficiency and the avoidance or replacement of problematic chemicals are just a few examples of the topics covered in this subject area.
- Instrumental analytics - the analysis of pharmaceutical products, natural substances and natural resources is essential in chemical development, production or quality control; you will learn the principles, practical implementation, interpretation and relevance of common analytical methods.
- Nuclear chemistry - you will learn how radioactive substances are handled as well as the fundamentals of radiochemical work; you can expand on this in our "Nuclear Applications" Master's degree programme and focus on, for example, medical physics or nuclear waste disposal.
The degree programme is supplemented by an introduction to GLP/GMP and REACH as well as Business Studies and offers a compatible B.Sc. degree. Our graduates are sought-after experts in a wide range of sectors, from the food and pharmaceutical industries to environmental technology. Companies are increasingly looking for professionals who can develop innovative solutions to the challenges of our time, and that's exactly what you'll learn with us.
