Areas of Activity
Mechatronics is a new, future-oriented technology. Today, a drastic change is taking place in many areas of engineering. Increasingly, electrical engineering/electronics as well as information technology are gaining influence on classical methods and ways of working in mechanical engineering. Numerous technical problems can already be solved today only through an interdisciplinary approach.
In order to master the diverse technical challenges of the future, traditional boundaries in engineering must therefore be overcome and new technological territory entered. As a new technology, mechatronics combines elements of the traditional disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science and supports interdisciplinary work and thinking. Mechatronics thus promotes the desired synergy effect in solving increasingly complex tasks.
Mechatronics is one of the technological innovations of the 21st century with considerable growth potential and the opportunity to create new jobs. Mechatronic systems are changing the world markets. Globally, development has already gained considerable momentum. The miniaturization that can be seen at the same time opens up new potentials, options and challenges for research and industry.
Mechatronics engineers are needed in almost all technical sectors. They work, for example, in the automotive industry, in mechanical engineering, in electrical engineering, but also in medical technology or in renewable energies. Today, mechatronic concepts are used in the majority of technical companies, regardless of whether they are small and medium-sized enterprises or large corporations. The fields of work of mechatronics engineers are extremely diverse. They work in development and design, production and manufacturing as well as in technical sales.
