This is done via an online form, which you should complete and upload together with your completed assignment and a short letter of motivation. You will then be invited by email to a personal interview at the Faculty of Architecture. After completing the aptitude test procedure, the result will be sent to you by postal mail by 14 June 2024. Homework Assignment | Letter of Motivation
Please download the current homework assignment for the 2024 Aptitude Test here.
All your entries should deal with the topic of space. Your drawings should show high-quality exterior and interior spaces that you have visited yourself and that appeal to you personally. We are interested in spatial conception and not mechanical reproduction, which is why sketches based on photos are not permitted.
We want to see your spatial and authentic perceptions convincingly represented in the drawings. For each drawing, you should formulate one or two sentences in which you explain what architectural quality you recognise in the building or space depicted.
Your personal view of architectural spaces and your enthusiasm for architecture should be expressed. Purely technical drawings and drawings created with a ruler are not welcome. Experiment!
Your letter of motivation should introduce you as an individual and explain your reasons for wanting to study architecture (maximum 1 DIN A4 page).
Practical Training
Practical training is required for the Bachelor's degree programme in Architecture. It may be divided into individual time periods and must be completed by 30 September in the third study semester at the latest. Ideally, part of the practical training should be completed before starting the degree programme. The practical training is divided into time periods at the construction site as well as in architectural and planning offices.
Here are the current practical training regulations for all first-year students from WS 2024/25:
All first-year students from WS 24/25 onwards in the Bachelor of Architecture degree programme at FH Aachen must provide proof of a total of 10 weeks of practical training by 30 September in the 3rd semester at the latest .
This is divided into a 6-week construction site activity in a main construction trade (the construction site practical training and the activities to be carried out are governed by the Construction Companies Ordinance, BaubetrV1980) and a 4-week work activity in an architectural or planning office. Employment or vocational training in the required areas before or during studies can be recognised as practical training time. In each case, a final report on the individual practical trainings must be compiled and submitted signed by a manager. The certificate of the practical training completed should be issued informally by the respective practical training company. It should contain at least the following information: exact period of the practical training, keywords as to which activities were carried out and to what extent.
It must be submitted to the Faculty of Architecture (Examination Office) for recognition (also possible as a scan by email). This certificate, recognised by the faculty, should then be submitted to the Registrar's Office (Bayernallee 11).
You will find more information in the Flyer.
