Studying Abroad
Everyone has the possibility to study abroad during a normal semester that they would otherwise complete at the FH Aachen. However, since university systems vary widely worldwide, this is the most difficult option, since it is nearly impossible to take exactly the same exams at the host university that you would otherwise take at the FH Aachen. If you choose this option, you must coordinate it carefully with your faculty to ensure that all exams are transferred to your degree program here.
Optional Study Abroad
Everyone has the option to take more courses than those required by their examination regulations, either at the FH Aachen or abroad. You should contact your faculty ETCS coordinator to organize that your credits obtained abroad can be transferred to appear on your degree certificate and diploma supplement.
The biggest difference between this option and the other two is that this will take an extra semester. Check with the Registrar's Office if it is possible to take a leave of absence. Keep in mind that tuition fees may be required by the host university.
Integrated Study Abroad
Some fields of study at the FH Aachen have an integrated semester abroad. The individual academic coordination about transferring credits, etc. is not necessary here, because the study workload to be completed abroad has already been coordinated between the universities and integrated into the study plan and examination regulations. In some cases there is even the possibility to obtain a degree from the host university in addition to the degree from the FH Aachen. This is especially interesting for those who want to work in the country later on.
