FH Karte
Information on the FH Card
You can apply for your FH Card on the Services page once you have successfully re-registered or registered at FH Aachen. Once you have applied, your card will be sent to you by post or you will receive an email informing you when and where you can collect your card.
The FH Card does not replace the semester ticket. You will receive your semester ticket as a separate eTicket by post directly from ASEAG.

Functions of the FH Karte
Payment function
With the FH Karte you can pay easily and cashlessly in the dining halls (Mensa) and cafeterias of the Studierendenwerk Aachen and in all branch libraries.
You can top up your FH Karte with credit at one of the machines in the dining halls (Mensa) and cafeterias of FH Aachen or RWTH Aachen University. You can also check your current credit balance at the machines. You then present your FH Karte to the cashier to pay and the corresponding amount is automatically debited from your FH Karte balance.
As an alternative to the machines, the Studierendenwerk offers an additional service, the AUTOLOAD procedure, which allows you to top up your card easily by direct debit. Further information on the autoload procedure can be found on the Studierendenwerk Aachen website.
Library card
Your FH Karte is also your library card. When applying for your FH Card on the Services page, you must agree to the FH Aachen University Library's user regulations. Your library account will then be set up automatically.
Once you have applied for your FH Karte, you can download a temporary library card from the Services page. The temporary library card is only valid for a limited period of time and will be automatically cancelled 4 weeks after the FH Karte has been sent or when the FH Karte is activated.

University sports participation
The FH Karte can also be used for participation/access control in university sports, provided that the card number (library number) of the FH Karte has been registered with the University Sports Centre (HSZ). Information on registration can be obtained from the University Sports Service Point at RWTH Aachen University.

Questions about first use & receipt of the card
When can I start using the FH Karte and what is the activation code for?
To be able to use the full functionality of your FH Karte, you need to activate it in two steps:
- Enter your activation code from the letter you received with your FH Karte on the Services page under the menu item Card overview.
- To activate the payment function, insert your FH Karte into a vending machine in the dining halls (Mensa) of FH Aachen or RWTH Aachen University. You can then top up your FH Karte with credit and use it to pay.
Can I choose between an FH Karte and a library card?
You are free to choose whether you apply for an FH card or a library card via the FH Aachen services page.
Do all students receive their FH Karte?
If you have specified a place of residence in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg, the FH Karte will be sent to you by post.
If you live outside these countries or if you are a participant in the Freshman Programme or a DSH student, your FH Karte will be available for you to collect from the FH Karte Service Point in FH Aachen or Jülich.
As a cross-registered student or guest auditor, do I also receive an FH Karte?
As a cross-registered student , you will receive an UAS card that is labelled "Zweithörer/-in" instead of "Studierenden ID card / Student Identity Card". It has the full functionality of the FH Karte.
As a guest auditor, you will not receive an FH Karte, but a separate paper guest auditor card as before. As you are only admitted for one semester at a time, your card must be reissued each semester.
Questions about changes to the card
My name has changed or has been spelt incorrectly. How can I have my FH Karte changed accordingly?
Please apply for a name change in the FH Aachen portal and request the reissue of your FH Karte via the Services page.
I have lost my FH Karte. How do I get a new one?
If your FH card is lost or stolen, please block it via the FH Aachen Services page. Please note that once a card has been blocked, it cannot be unblocked again for security reasons. After blocking, please also apply for a replacement card via the Services page.
Questions on the subject of photos
What are the requirements for the photo?
The photo for your FH Karte should clearly show your identity at the time of application. Only photos in JPG file format can be uploaded to the services page. Please do not use scanned or photographed photos. A selfie in front of a neutral background and looking into the camera is usually sufficient.
Where can I upload my photo for the FH Karte?
Please upload your photo, which is required for the FH Karte to be issued, directly to our ordering system on the Services page.
How long will my photo be stored?
Your photo will be stored for the duration of your registration at FH Aachen. After activating your FH Karte, you can upload a new photo of yourself via the Services page. You can withdraw your consent to the use of the photo on the FH Karte by deleting the photo. This will automatically withdraw your consent to use the photo for FH Aachen online services.
Approved photos are required for the history function and can no longer be deleted. These photos are automatically deleted upon deregistration.
